"Anna"

Staff Sergeant Anna Wear, 4th generation Army, was a member of the CST’s, an elite female unit that served alongside Special Operations Forces in Afghanistan. In preparation for her deployments, Anna committed herself to attaining the same levels of competency as was expected of the men on her missions. Her role was to directly interact with Afghan women and children during combat operations, as it was deemed culturally inappropriate if performed by a male service member.

"Rosa"

“Rosa” (name withheld for security purposes) grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and witnessed Operation Just Cause in her teens.  With limited opportunities for a future, she left her family home to find work, emigrated to the U.S. and enlisted in the National Guard. As a Lieutenant Colonel and a naturalized citizen, she now serves as an intelligence officer.

"Rhona & Makayla"

Ninety-eight year-old Lieutenant Colonel Rhona Around was a WWII nurse caring for soldiers returning from Europe. 

Lieutenant Colonel Makayla Mills is studying for her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Part of her training includes treating soldiers returning from Afghanistan. 

This double portrait celebrates the long, historic legacy of women who serve our country as medics.

Vice Admiral Nora Tyson was the first female Carrier Strike Group Commander, the first female Third Fleet Commander responsible for fifty million square miles of the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean and served as Vice Director of the Joint Staff.

“Homage to Deborah Sampson”

This painting of a female sniper honors the memory of Deborah Sampson, a hero of the American Revolution, who disguised herself as a man and joined the Patriot forces. She was the only woman to earn a full military pension for participation in the Revolutionary army.
